How to use mask, shampoo, serum in hair systems or wigs

Especially if you use a natural wig or a hair system (well, you know that hairs are normally more dry and need for extra care), it is normal for you to be confused about which cosmetic is better to use, when, how and in which order.

Mostly because maybe, in your daily routine, you used to wash your hair using just a shampoo, but now, since you use wigs or hair systems, you have different needs.

Natural hair

First of all, these advice are for wigs, hair systems, applique or extensions of natural hair, if you wear synthetic hairs it is a different story!

1) Washing frequency.

If you wear a wig / system 24 hours per day, you need to wash it every 3 or 4 days. Yes, even if you think the hairs are not dirty. If you take it off to sleep or if you wear it just to go out, wash it once every 6-8 days. Ideally, twice a week if you sleep with it, otherwise once a week.

2) How many cosmetics do you need?

Although we like to accumulate lots and lots of bottles on shower shelf, in reality it is easier than it seems: a suitable shampoo, a suitable mask and optionally a serum or an oil to use after.

Ideally, you should use everything from the beginning. Why? Even though your system or wig is new, prevention is better than cure…proverbs are very wise about it.

3) What kind of products should you use?

You have to know the reasons why you need to do it, this way you will be able to make better purchase decisions.

Wigs, systems, extensions, applique don’t have sebaceous glands.

The only hydration the hair receives comes from external cosmetics. Therefore, since dry hair doesn’t regenerate, a cosmetic with rich and super moisturizing substances is necessary: oils, silicones, keratins, etc.

Yes, silicone is simply wonderful for hair systems. We always recommend good brand products because they work. If you decide to buy something from other companies or blank brands, they could be amazing (remember the mantra: yes to silicone) or they could cause the complete destruction of your system, so first try them on some hairs before using them on all your system.

Sometimes, to save a little bit of money in cosmetics our systems or wigs last less and, in the long run, we spend more.

4) In which order?

All right, shampoo is the first step in every washing.

Then comes the mask.

Apply a quantity that can varies between a walnut and something more, depending on the length or the type of system you use. A full figure wig is not the same as a system for short hair. Let it act at least 3 minutes (ideally 10 or 15 if you have time).

Then you can dry and shape the hair how you want. Applying a little bit of serum/oil with no rinsing on the hair while it is still wet would be even better.

The vast majority of these serum-like cosmetics can be used dry, but if applied on damp hair the result is even better.

No, it is not worth using the serum when our hair is dirty because dust, pollution, sebum and dirt will pass on our hair and the serum will act as a “glue” between the dirt and our hair, creating a bad effect.

5) And if I don’t wash myself, what happens?

A lot of people forget to hydrate their system or wig during the days they don’t have to wash it, that is most of the time. It’s not that you have to become obsessed, but we recommend you to apply a small amount of special oil (argan) or medium serum to the ends. Even though it takes just 30 seconds, if you can’t do it everyday do it at least every two days. A small amount is enough, don’t worry! Modern cosmetics are absorbed quickly, you won’t go around with your hair wet.

6)Which brands?

We recommend Newlacecu or other good and professional brands, because they have been given excellent results. Certainly there are other options which are equal or better, but we didn’t have the pleasure to have tried them, so any kind of advice or recommendations are welcome.
