How to use ORWG GLUE and TAPES on a hair replacement system

In this article, we will explain different ways to use hair tapes and glue for our hair systems.

First off, these anchoring methods are geared towards those who want to shave the area affected by alopecia and use systems that can be anchored with hair tape or glue. Those who do not want to shave the area, should use microclines or hair silk top that can be anchored with clips or keratin.

The anchoring techniques using tape and glue are various as one may use tape only, glue only, or both combined.

Use of tape and glue

Let’s start by explaining that it is better to use tape on the base and glue on the skin.

First, one should place some tape on the base of the systems, then take the protective cover off, and attach the replacement system to the head.

Instead, when using glue, one should rub the glue on to the skin and let it dry. Once dried, one can press the replacement system directly on the skin.

If the trichology system is not a net – meaning that it is either a Silicon or a Skin – one can spread the glue directly on the base of the extension. However, even with these replacement systems made of polyurethane, we always recommend to rub the glue on the skin. Indeed, based on our yearly experience, we have seen that by using this method the replacement system sticks for longer time and gets less dirty.

Anchoring methods

There are several anchoring methods:

  1. Place the tape on the whole surface and attach the replacement system;
  2. Place the tape solely on the back and on the sides and attach the replacement system in these areas. Then use glue only on the front;
  3. Place the tape on the whole surface, including the front, leaving about 1 cm or less on the edge. Then, close up the front with some glue;
  4. Spread the glue on the whole area affected by alopecia and let it dry.  Then, press the replacement system directly on the skin.

We find the best method to be the one that uses both anchoring tools: the tape and the glue: the tape on the back and on the sides, and the glue on the front.

This is because the tapes ensure a very strong grip, they are easy to wash, and they do not leave any residues. On the other hand, the glue leave residues but ensures a perfect finish on the front.

Type or glues for hair systems

There are different kind of glues.

Water-based glues are easier to clean, such as the ORWG (Oil Resistant Water Glue), which is easy to clean and has a good grip.

Acrylic-based glues have the strongest grip, such as the Newlacecu, which you can buy here, but this is more difficult to clean.
