What is the difference between a laced wig and a regular wig?

Nowadays, women and girls are affected by a variety of types of alopecia more and more. These range from the most common androgenetic alopecia that affects more than 65% of women over 50, to non-hormonal yet autoimmune alopecia. Amongst the latter, the worst is surely the alopecia areata, which may affect the whole head (complete alopecia) or even the whole body (universal alopecia).

As of today, we do not know which may be the cause for the increase of alopecia affecting females. Some studies suggest it may be the pollution, others link it to a change in nutrition habits – which are increasingly carnivore and glycemic, and others even point at a pseudo genetic evolution.

In any case, in a society where physical appearance is so important, a woman affected by any kind of alopecia is surely someone who faces difficulties in accepting oneself as well as in having a fulfilling relational life.

This is why there is an increased offer of wigs and hair replacement systems targeting the women world.

Which are the differences between a regular wig and a laced wig?

A similar comparison would be that between an economy car and a Formula One car.

Indeed the differences include appearance, weight, and practicality.

  1. The laced wigs are anchored to the skin and never move, whereas the regular wigs are unstable and insecure. Someone who wears a laced wig can go to the seaside, practice sport, and live a fully normal life. On the other hand, those who chose a regular wig are more likely to experience problems. They will never be able to conduct an athletic and quiet life, since a regular wig is unstable and can easily move while practicing sport or, even worse, while swimming.
  2.  A laced wig – or else laced hair extension – is fully transpired, therefore one won’t feel it on. It is also imperceptible to touch, just like having one’s own hair.  On the other hand, a regular wig has a heavy and thick base, it is bothersome, especially when it is hot. Also, when touching it, one can immediately recognize it.
  3. A laced wig is completely invisible along the edges. Therefore, once worn, one can comb her hair as she pleases, even pulling one’s hair back. Instead, due to its thick base, a regular wig forces one to wear the hair forward and down. When having a long haired wig, one can never wear a ponytail.
  4. A laced wig (that you may find online at www.newlacecu.it) is anchored using tapes and glues and sticks to the skin for one week, or even up ten days. It feels as if you had your natural hair. Whereas a wig should be removed every night.

Therefore, in today’s day and age, if one desires a natural head of hair that allows them to conduct a normal life, the best option is a lace wig rather than a traditional one.

However, keep in mind that  laced wigs also have its shortcomings. Unfortunately the 100% perfect solution hasn’t been discovered yet – and perhaps it never will be.

Here are the limits of a laced wig:

  1. One should take care of it using shampoo and restoring cream, and replace it every few months.
  2. It needs to be glues and cleaned every week – which isn’t the best for some.

Apart from these two small drawbacks, it is an optimal solution. Therefore, if your alopecia prevents you from having a peaceful life, and it is affecting your whole head, this is surely the best choice.
